Price sources and methodology
This page explains where every number on MSA Gold comes from, how it is calculated and how often it updates.
Sources
- Gold: 21K buy and sell prices per gram, entered manually by the MSA Gold team into its pricing system whenever the market price changes — the same source used by the iOS and Android apps and this website.
- Silver: 999 silver buy and sell prices per gram, also entered manually by the team in the same system.
- Global ounce prices (USD) and the bank USD/EGP rate, as received by the MSA Gold system.
According to the MSA Gold terms (Arabic), displayed prices and data come from trusted external sources, are updated periodically and are shown for information purposes only; actual prices at jewellers, banks or local markets may differ.

Updates and timestamps
- Prices are entered manually by the MSA Gold team and adjusted whenever the market price changes — there is no fixed schedule, so there can be a gap between updates when the market is quiet.
- The website reads the prices with a cache of a few seconds, and open price pages re-read them every minute.
- “Last price reading” is the time the website last read the prices successfully from the MSA Gold system, in Cairo time — not necessarily the time the team last changed the price. If the market has not moved, the price can stay the same even though the reading is recent.
- If the source is unreachable, the last known price is kept and labelled with the time it was last updated.
Why shop prices differ
Displayed prices are indicative prices per gram of raw metal. Shops add workmanship, hallmark fees and taxes, set their own margins and update at different times. The actual price is set at the time of the transaction.
